What if we finally trained how to use an RIA like in the field, but without the constraints?
With the Virtualized RIA lance our FIRE AR augmented reality fire simulator, IRWINO signs a world exclusive: the first educational RIA designed for the augmented reality (AR). A unique, immersive tool designed to transform fire training.
Visit Armed fire valve is a fire-fighting device installed in a fixed position in a building. industrial buildings, ERP, warehouses or large tertiary structures.
It consists of a semi-rigid hose about 20 to 30 meters long, wound around a wall-mounted reel and connected to a pressurized water supply. Its lance makes it possible to obtain straight or diffused spray to contain an incipient fire.
Unlike a fire extinguisher, a RIA can continuous water spray, This makes it particularly useful in high-risk areas.
Its handling, although intuitive, requires rigorous training: opening the tap, controlling the flow, choosing the type of jet... all reflexes that the immersive simulation from FIRE AR now makes it possible to transmit, without water or danger.
What is the FIRE AR Virtualized RIA lance?
A real RIA in your hands, a fire in front of you, and total immersion in the real environment: the launches Virtualized RIA connects the real with the virtual, for training like never before.
The Virtualized RIA lance is a version of a real Armed Fire Fighter, specially designed for our augmented reality fire simulator. It combines a physical RIA, new and transformed, with a connected object and interactive with headphones Meta Quest 3. Thanks to a custom-designed joystick support integrated into the lance, every action performed by the learner (opening the tap, changing the flow rate/jet, directing the spray) is detected and synchronized in the virtual elements of our fire simulation.
This technology can reproduce in real time the effects of a water jet, straight or diffused, on a virtual light, with a behavior that adapts to the type of light (A,B,C,D,F) and the connected tool used.
The aim: to offer an ultra-realistic fire training experience, with no risks, no consumables, but with all the pedagogical richness of a real field exercise.
A concrete response to needs in the field
In the field, the fire trainers repeated:
" A fire extinguisher is essential. But for certain scenarios, you also need an RIA.. »
This comment, heard several times during our discussions and demonstrations, highlighted a real gap. The possibility of training in the use of RIA under realistic conditions, without logistical constraints or waste. Unlike extinguishers, fire extinguishers are rarely simulated in fire training courses, due to the complexity of their installation.
At IRWINO, We took this need head-on. Thanks to our expertise in augmented reality and virtual reality, we have designed an innovative, mobile solution, which respects real gestures while eliminating material constraints: the first immersive and interactive 100 % virtualized RIA launcher.
An immersive, mobile and realistic tool
Designed to work in synergy with FIRE AR, the virtualized RIA lance transforms an existing a simple hall into a training ground.
- It faithfully reproduces the gestures of a real RIA , These include hose grip, faucet release and flow management (straight or diffused spray).
- Thanks to AR, the learner live view of the water jet (straight or diffused) projected onto virtual flames, with dynamic behavior depending on orientation, distance or target surface.
- The trainer can track movements, analyze reactions, and adapting returns teaching methods that are as close as possible to the trainee's movements.
A specially designed joystick holder allows the physical RIA to be connected to the’semi-virtual environment. it was designed for s’A natural fit with the RIA handle, This ensures a seamless transition between the real and virtual worlds, without disrupting the learning process.
All without any infrastructure: no hose to unroll, no water connection, no danger for participants. Just pure pedagogy, in a real-life situation.
An innovation 100 % IRWINO
Virtualized RIA is not a product designed in the laboratory, but in the field with the people who live it: trainers, developers, makers and designers have combined their skills.
- Adrien, Yahel and Enzo worked together on every stage of 3D modeling, prototyping, testing, optimizing and printing the various parts that make up the RIA joystick support. Their objective was to design a support that was robust, ergonomic, easy to assemble and perfectly integrated into the user experience.
- Gregoire and Alex were responsible not only for the 3D modeling of the projected jets, but also for real-time synchronization between the trainee's actions on the RIA (e.g. opening the valve) and the reactions of the simulation in the helmet. In particular, they reviewed the entire flame management logic so that the flames reacted consistently according to the tool used, jet power, angle or distance.
- Laurent, C.E.O. of 4D CREA, ensured team coordination, compliance with specifications and product consistency between mechanical design, immersive logic and educational experience.
Once the design has been validated and the behaviour tested in the simulator FIRE AR, Yahel and Enzo have taken over for launch production. from 3D printing of parts, to assembly of virtualized RIAs, to quality control, and finally shipping to customers.
The result is a simple-looking but highly technical product, designed by and for professionals in the field.
Local, circular manufacturing
Each virtualized RIA lance is designed, assembled and tested at Guyancourt (78), in our FabLab. This local choice enables us to maintain rigorous quality control and proximity to our partners in the field.
The fire extinguishers used are new, then processed in our workshop thanks to 3D printed parts on site. Once unused by the customer, they can be updated or reused to optimize resources.
This approach is part of a genuine’active circular economy :
- No waste of consumables,
- RIAs are upgraded internally,
- Fewer disposable materials,
- Local production on demand,
- Reduced transport and associated waste,
- A more sustainable way of teaching.
An eco-designed, reusable, upgradeable and truly useful tool.
Designed for trainers, field-tested
More than just an accessory, the Virtualized RIA lance has become an essential part of fire training. FIRE AR. It allows you to tackle more advanced scenarios : large-scale fires, progressive extinguishing strategies…
Designed to adapt to the realities of the field, it naturally finds its place in a wide variety of training contexts, where pedagogical effectiveness must rhyme with flexibility and mobility :
- Fire training centers, who want to enhance their teaching methods without the need for a heavy infrastructure.
- Industrial sites and ERP, for on-the-spot simulations in a realistic setting.
- HSE managers, who are looking for innovative tools to raise awareness effectively.
- Touring trainers, Its compact size means it can be taken anywhere.
The feedback is unanimous: it's a engaging, intuitive tool, which promotes memorial anchoring strong.
